7 Top Docs of the Tristate Region
For our second annual Health Care Issue, we looked across the tristate region to find the area’s top doctors. Seven physicians who selflessly dedicate their lives to providing the best possible care for their patients while helping to break new grounds in medicine. From the nation’s first Chief Experience Officer to the former President of the Pennsylvania Medical Society these are this year’s “7 Top Doctors of the Tristate Region.”
Bridget Duffy, MD – Cleveland Clinic Health System
Dr. Bridget Duffy leads a radical approach to medicine – patient care. When you meet Dr. Duffy the first thing that strikes you is her warm engaging smile. She possesses the ability to make you feel almost instantly at ease. If anyone is a walking billboard for her job, it is Bridgette Duffy. The nation's first Hospital Chief Experience Officer chuckles when she recalls her initial title at the Cleveland Clinic, “Empathy Officer,” but she is dead serious when describing the program she has developed and the potential impact it |

David Binion, MD – University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
When Dr. David Binion tells his patients "I know how you feel" he means it. Binion, a specialist in gastroenterology, fully understands what his patients are enduring, because he suffers one of the same diseases he treats – Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory disease that affects the gastrointestinal tract.

Frank McLaughlin, DO, FAAFP – Meadville Medical Center
Dr. Frank McLaughlin does not care whether or not you have insurance, he cares whether or not you have health care, and he has dedicated his career to providing quality medical care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. As Medical Director for Conneaut Valley Health Center, a subsidiary of Meadville Medical Center, the Family Medicine specialist sees a range of patients from age 1 to 100, but what really makes his facility unique is that no patient will be turned away because of the inability to pay.

Peter Lund, MD – St. Vincent Health System
Dr. Peter Lund has dedicated much of his career to the politics of medicine. A local leader in health care, Dr. Lund has been a voice for medicine in this region and state through the numerous boards and committees he has served on. He is a former President of the Erie County Medical Society, a former President of the North West Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and was the 2007-2008 President of the Pennsylvania Medical Society – a position that saw Dr. Lund on the forefront of the creation of the Institute for Good Medicine.

Dheerendra Prasad, MD, M-Ch – Roswell Park Cancer Institute
Dr. Dheerendra Prasad does not want to be referred to as a pioneer in his field, but his impact on Gamma Knife surgery has helped push the minimally invasive procedure, most commonly used for removing brain tumors, into new frontiers. Castle Connolly, the undisputed expert in recognizing the nation's best physicians, publishes consumer medical guides and compiles lists of regional Top Doctors annually. The firm has been in business since 1991. Each year, it sends out about 30,000 invitations nationwide to board-certified physicians, as well as chief officers from more than 1,500 hospitals, to take part in the Top Doctors survey. property search
In New Jersey, no fewer than 4,000 MDs are invited to nominate annually. Doctors invited to participate have the option of nominating physicians in any part of the country. And while it is reasonable to expect that one doctor nominating another is likely to select someone from his or her region, doctors do nominate physicians in other parts of the country.
This means New Jersey Top Doctors also may have received nominations form peers in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and elsewhere. Each invitee can nominate up to 25 doctors in any medical specialty. While the nomination process is anonymous and confidential, each invitee has a unique access code to the nomination website. The codes help Castle Connolly ensure that doctors do not nominate themselves, and assign variable weighting to the entries according to whether the nominator has a private practice or a position at a hospital stock trading.
