These 4 Investments Go Towards Self-improvement

What you invest in yourself comes back to thank you later on. You may think it’s better to spend money elsewhere, but you’ll realize you’re just wasting money on things you won’t even remember in a year. Rather than spend money on wasteful and pointless things, treat yourself to the following:

1. Instrument Lessons

Guitar or piano lessons are not just for kids. It’s not too late for you to learn a new skill, which will open up doors not only in Lehi but all around the world.

Even if you don’t plan on uprooting your life to pursue a career related to music, learning how to play an instrument gives you a productive outlet when you feel stressed or anxious. It’s also a good conversation starter, especially if you’re in a talented crowd. There’s nothing worse than feeling out of place, but thankfully, you won’t have to feel that way ever again because of the skill you decided to pursue.

2. Public Speaking Lessons

You may be able to avoid public speaking for now, but if you have plans to be successful in the future, this is something you need to work on as soon as possible. Many do not feel that public speaking skills are important enough to pay money for. Then when it’s time to present a project that makes or breaks their career, they realize they don’t know how to speak to a crowd effectively.

It’s not enough that you know how to string words together. You need to learn how to speak in such a way that it keeps everyone interested and sends the right message across. You’ll also have to think about your body language, as a good speech may still sound bad if you look defensive or unconvinced of your own credibility.

3. Clothes

This does not mean keeping a big wardrobe. This means buying essentials that you won’t have to replace every so often because of the poor quality. You may think it’s wise to buy cheap and trendy clothes, but if it’s of questionable quality, the image you’re projecting to everyone is also questionable. It’s an essential part of adulting to know which purchase is more valuable.

Your wardrobe doesn’t need several cheap shoes if you have the essentials — nude pumps and black heels. Every girl should also invest in a little black dress, which can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. For men, a good suit can make you more qualified for a position than a jeans-wearing fellow applicant.

4. Website

It’s not vanity to have your own website. In this day and age, it’s important to hold your own personal space online, even if it’s just a page for your resume and links to social media accounts. Anyone can use your name to set up their own website, and that may ruin your reputation if they do something unscrupulous.

Before they can do that, get the domain for yourself and protect your name. Having your website doesn’t just act as a placeholder. It can be a way to build your name and, if you’re in the IT industry, it’s a way to show your skills through web design.

A small savings account doesn’t mean you’re not ready to invest in yourself. Take all the money you put into useless purchases and use them for self-improvement.
